When the summer crowds thin and the air gains that crisp edge, Tahoe City ushers in fall with a party that blends Bavarian festivity and mountain-town charm. The 19th Annual Tahoe City Oktoberfest returns to Gatekeeper’s Museum on the shores of North Lake Tahoe on September 20, from noon to 5 pm. If you’re looking for somewhere that offers good beer, good eats, and good views—with a side of community warmth—this is your event. And, yes, it’s family-friendly.

What You’ll Find There

Here’s a breakdown of the event features:

Beer, Food & Bavarian Vibes

  • Craft beer tastings: Local and regional breweries will be pouring. Drink tokens are used, and for those 21+, there’s a “beer garden.”

  • Commemorative glass and tokens: The ticket ($25 in advance; $30 at the door) includes a beer glass and two drink tokens.

  • Food vendors: Expect Bavarian-style fare—bratwurst, pretzels, maybe schnitzel or comparable bites—alongside local food trucks.

Entertainment & Games

  • Live music is a central draw. This year Californian band Alpine Sound (from San Francisco) will be performing.

  • Bavarian-themed games and activities for all ages: think classic Oktoberfest games, kids’ crafts and pumpkin painting, face painting, etc.

  • Vendor village / artisan market: Local makers and craftspeople will have stalls. Great spot to find unique souvenirs.

Family & Community

  • Free pumpkins and art supplies for kids (first come, first served) for pumpkin painting.

  • Face painting, crafting, kids’ zones. Something for young ones so parents can enjoy the beer & food.

  • Even though some parts are ticketed (beer garden), much of the experience (food vendors, atmosphere, games, artisan vendors) is accessible to all attending.

Why this One’s Worth It

What makes Tahoe City’s Oktoberfest more than just “another fest”?

  1. Scenery: Few places are as gorgeous for this kind of gathering. Lakeside views, mountain air—beautiful setting for an autumn gathering.

  2. Community feel: It’s not a massive carnival. There’s space to breathe, chat, relax. It tends to draw locals and visitors who appreciate blending culture, food, and nature rather than just drinking.

  3. Tradition: This is the 19th year of the festival, so it has roots and people anticipate it. It’s become one of Tahoe’s cornerstone fall events.

  4. Family inclusiveness: Good mix of adult entertainment (beer, tasting, music) with kid-friendly zones so parents can bring children and still have a good time.
