Reno’s sports and entertainment scene is about to get a major upgrade. A brand-new basketball arena is currently being built at Grand Sierra Resort as part of a massive redevelopment project that will transform the resort into a premier destination for sports, concerts, and large events in Northern Nevada.

A Major Investment in Reno

The new arena is the centerpiece of a $1 billion redevelopment plan at the Grand Sierra Resort, the largest private capital investment in Reno’s history. The project includes new entertainment venues, hospitality spaces, and additional resort amenities designed to elevate the city’s tourism and event offerings.

Construction on the arena officially began in September 2025, marking the start of a multi-phase project expected to continue throughout the decade.

A New Home for Nevada Wolf Pack Basketball

One of the biggest announcements tied to the new arena is its partnership with the Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball program.

When the facility opens—currently projected for 2027—it will serve as the future home for Wolf Pack men’s basketball, creating a modern game-day experience for fans and athletes alike.

The arena will seat more than 10,000 fans, offering a slightly smaller but far more modern venue compared to current facilities in the region.

What the New Arena Will Include

The facility is designed to be a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, featuring:

  • Seating for 10,000+ spectators

  • Luxury suites and hospitality clubs

  • A central fan plaza and entertainment areas

  • Modern locker rooms and athlete training facilities

  • Restaurants and premium hospitality spaces

  • An attached parking garage for easier event access

The arena itself will span roughly 300,000 square feet, making it one of the most significant indoor venues in Northern Nevada.

More Than Just Basketball

While the arena will host college basketball games, it is also designed to support a wide range of events. Developers expect the venue to host around 95 events per year, including:

  • Concerts and live entertainment

  • Other sporting events

  • Community gatherings and tournaments

  • Potential minor-league hockey games

There are also plans for a satellite ice rink and fan zone, turning the area into a year-round sports and entertainment hub.
